50th Anniversary Buffalo Sabres Aud Poster
In 2019, the Buffalo Sabres celebrated their 50th anniversary. To mark this milestone, a series of posters were created to represent each game, highlighting their respective decade's theme. The Buffalo Sabres used to play their games at The Aud, their beloved arena until 1996, which remained vacant for 13 years. Despite not having a personal connection with this arena, my extensive research on The Aud led me to discover the intriguing story of its chairs.
The chairs of The Aud seem to be the focal point of nostalgia when people reminisce about this iconic stadium. Memories of seasons spent in The Aud are often accompanied by recollections of the colors of the chairs. These seats were fortunately salvaged from demolition and now have a legendary presence throughout Buffalo, NY. One of these cherished chairs currently resides in the KeyBank Center, where the Sabres now play their home games.
After arranging a photo session with this meaningful chair, I delved into historical photographs to find the ideal reference for the Jumbotron. I aimed to capture the essence of the countless years and memories that the floor of The Aud had witnessed. From old newspaper clippings to a long-forgotten Slice soda can, the chair boasts cracks and rusty old bolts, each with its own story. As the lights from the Jumbotron and the roof shine down upon this chair, it becomes a symbol of the cherished memories it has brought to countless individuals.
